Apple Picking...

We spent the weekend apple picking and came home with a bajillion apples (this is just a small portion above). I've been pouring over my cookbooks (and my google reader starred items) looking at apple recipes to make this week. I've made an enormously long grocery list of items I need, lemon, sugar, flour, butter and BREYER'S NATURAL VANILLA. Mmmmm. It's a good week to be in my house. Do you want to come over? Do you want me to bring you some pie? Send me your apple recipes!

  1. You should definitely make applesauce!! I made homemade applesauce a few weeks ago and it was totally delish. You basically core and slice (into like 2" cubes) 3 or 4 pounds of apples. Put them into a pot with lemon zest and the juice, 1 cup of water, a cinnamon stick, half a vanilla bean (or some of your breyer's), and any spices that seem yummy to you (nutmeg and allspice). Boil for about 20 minutes. Stir if you want chunky applesauce or puree if you want super smooth. The end. (Lots of recipes call for sugar in your applesauce. I didn't need any at all.)
